Loaded with gore sloshed upon gore and blessed with craptacular practical effects, this anthology horror film from writer/director Ryan Spindell is a big old pile of fun. It wears its influences – Creepshow and Tales from the Crypt – on its bloody sleeve and delivers entertaining tales around an effective wraparound story.
Anthology films rarely hit the mark, but RLJ Entertainment and Shudder’s 2019 offering is one of the better ones. It’s a twisted mix of Del Toro and Romero with plenty of genuinely unexpected twists.
2. Swinging Safari

If you’re an Aussie, you’ll be nostalgic for this sexy tale of ’70s suburban life, complete with wacky beachside rituals and plenty of plastic-covered carpet, chiko rolls and glistening suntan oil. But it’s not for everyone. The plot can get a little muddled at times, and the racy scenes can be off-putting for some.
3. The Kissing Booth
The Kissing Booth was Jacob Elordi’s first major role and it really launched his acting career. The film was broadcast by Netflix and starred Joey King and Joel Courtney. It tells the story of Elle and her love life with her longtime friend Lee and her older brother Noah.
The movie is based on Beth Reekles’ self-published coming-of-age novel and director Vince Marcello knows how to please his teen target audience. It has a few moments of bubbly comedy and social embarrassment, but it also explores the complications of a toxic friendship.
While the ending feels rushed and a little too convenient, it still sends a positive message about following your heart. It’s just not as good as Juno, which handled a similar subject with much more maturity. However, The Kissing Booth is still worth a watch.

Euphoria focuses on the lives of teenagers in the small town of East Highland. It explores a variety of topics including drug abuse, toxic positivity, and hookup culture. The series features some strong acting from Jacob Elordi, but the show struggles to find a tone that balances its brutality with a sense of humanity.
The show often overdoes it when it comes to depicting the darker impulses of adolescence. The pilot opens with Rue, a drug addict who says the last time she felt happiness was in her mother’s womb.
Other episodes explore Rue’s struggle with her addiction and her relationship with her fast-friend-turned-crush, Jules (Hunter Schafer). Despite its rough edges, Euphoria manages to capture the anxieties of this generation of teenagers. It’s a worthwhile watch for anyone interested in the topic.
5. 2 Hearts
After setting teenage girls’ hearts aflutter in Netflix’s hit The Kissing Booth, Jacob Elordi scored more dramatic roles, including in Adrian Lyne’s star-studded Deep Water and HBO’s visually arresting Euphoria. He also has a part in Cailee Spaeny’s upcoming Priscilla, an adaptation of the memoir by Elvis Presley’s ex-wife.
In 2 Hearts, based on a true story, Elordi plays Chris, a college student who meets and falls in love with vivacious classmate Sam (Tiera Skovbye). In parallel, Designated Survivor actor Adan Canto stars as Jorge, a Cuban rum heir living with a rare lung disease. The two couples’ stories intertwine until they meet at the point of tragedy. It’s a softheaded piece of morbid romantic treacle that tips its hand within 10 minutes. The message is clear: Even the worst disasters are part of God’s plan.
